January 2007

Meeting Minutes:

1.) The first item on the agenda was the Club's financial situation. Stuart Clark compiled a balance sheet for the club. As a direct result of this, a discussion about the nature of the 50/50 draw was held.

It was decided that, to ease the strain on club funds that the current system of one cash prize, one gift certificate and one tertiary prize would be changed for the coming year. It was proposed that there would only be one major prize per month, and that it would alternate between being a gift certificate and the cash.

2.) Being January, it is Membership month. The $35 in dues was collected from many members. Those who did not pay this time are reminded to bring their money next time. After March, we start breaking kneecaps.

3.) There are several upcoming shows, including the Hamilton Show in February (Feb. 25, actually), the WellCOME show in March and Borden in April.

4.) The idea of performing a demonstration one Saturday morning at the Westmount Public Library was discussed after some hiatus. It was decided that the opportunity would be pursued, with Dennis Glas acting as Liaison. Others, including Mario, Doug, Adam, Don and Scott agreed to participate. Other participants are encouraged as well.

5.) An idea for a potential "Plan B" in the event that a seminar has to be cancelled/postponed was put forward. The idea was for everyone to bring a bag/box of spares so that we could have a 'spares swap'. This is a good idea, and one that we will talk a bit more about in future meetings, to iron out the details.

6.) This month's show-and tell table was quite small, although there was an interesting cross section of everything from tanks to planes to cars to robots. There was one unbuilt kit up for perusing, and Don brought in a video on modelling so that club members could take a look at the chapter listing and see if it interested them.

7.) Ed Kubiak provided a very live, hands-on demonstration of soldering techniques for use with brass parts. It was a very informative presentation and was well thought out and well executed. Good job Ed!

Next Time: Doug Booth and Dave Walter will discuss waterlining ships and making your own water for ship models. Instant water - just add water! Nice...

See you then!
