July 2007

Meeting Minutes:

1) The first item this month was to discuss the picnic. This is being held at the home of Cam Hastings this year, from 3:00pm until 8:00-8:30 pm-ish on Sunday, August 12. A sign up sheet was passed around, but there was not as much signing up going on as expected. People wishing to participate should email me at adam.rehorn@gmail.com to let me know if they're coming, bringing someone and what dish they'll be bringing with them.

A .pdf of the flier will be sent around shortly. Watch for it in your email.

2) This Sunday, July 15, 2007 , there is a Military History Society of London event happening at the Lambeth Legion. In addition to a Military 'Antiques Road Show" (people are free to bring out their memorabilia and see if it's worth anything), the MHS has asked IPMS London if they want to bring out any of their models for display and to answer questions.

The event runs on Sunday, from 9:00am until 4:00pm . Anyone interested in going is encouraged to do so, and you don't need to stay for the entire day. There's no fee, and it's open to the public. Hopefully, someone will take some show flyers, and club flyers as well.

Ed, Tom, Scott, and Doug all expressed interest. Hopefully others will follow suit.

3) The third issue, yet the biggest of the night, was the room. Due to some form of (hopefully innocent) SNAFU, we were back in the small room. While it was a bit crowded, we made do. The executive is pursuing the matter, and we should be back in the big room for next meeting. Hopefully, this will not interfere with the booking of the room itself for the 2008 season, but that also will now have to be resolved.

Stay tuned for more details.

4) A show update was given. While sponsorship is almost 70%, it was pointed out that there is only 'limited local support' for vending. Hopefully this will change as the time gets closer.

A list of duties was passed around, and some signing up was done.

Setup will begin at around 8:00am , and everyone in the club is needed to help with vendor setup, table setup, etc.

An idea about club members pre-registering their models at the meeting before the show was put forward. Also, the idea of name tags was also put forward. In addition, it has been determined that Adam Rehorn will be the MC for the show. Sorry guys, you're going to have to listen to me a little more!

5) A good show-and tell table with a variety of kits was presented, as always. There was an interesting mix of both built and unbuilt kits, with Sci-Fi really being strongly represented by a mix of gaming and injection moulded models. Good work and thanks, as always, to those involved.

Our monthly seminar series continued with a discussion on Photoetch handling and techniques by Tom.

Next Time:

Our monthly seminars will continue with a presentation on "The Evil D" - die cast replicas and how to really treat them like models, rather than just premade replicas. All that plus the usual show-and-tell, 50/50 and post-meeting meeting at Kelsey's.

See you then!
